Dad rarely teaches me anything. No, don’t get me wrong. He does, but not by giving me lists of dos and don’ts. he rarely tells me what i should and shouldn’t do. Instead, he tells me stories. Lots of stories about anything. About himself, about mum, about his friends, things he loves, things he hates. Though the stories are not always a good one, i started to enjoy it, and soon, addicted to it. Specially stories about these uncles and aunties.
Dad loves music. he introduces me to all of his favorite bands. we listen to them together. these uncles and aunties are all dad’s superheroes. Dad admires them so much, i can tell. Some are bad guys, some are good, but most importantly, all are inspiring. For example, when i was afraid of the dark at night, dad calmed me down by saying, “it’s okay dear, even Grandad John kept a light on while he slept. But, if you can fight it and turn that light off now, believe me, you’re even more awesome than him.” A strange way to motivate, but it worked. he’s always like that. dad doesn’t dictate. dad can always find a way to get me. it’s not always about the story, it’s also about the way he tells me.
